Two Conrail locomotive operators testified yesterday that they had carefully inspected a moveable train bridge before it collapsed sending four rail cars into a creek. The derailment punctured one tank car carrying vinyl chloride, which formed a vapor (via WHYY’s NewsWorks.org)

Germantown High School’s final graduation was a celebration, not a funeral

146th Graduation Ceremony of Germantown High School Class of 2013, New Covenant Church, Philadelphia, PA USA - June 19, 2013; These 120 graduates of the Class of 2013 are the last to receive a diploma from Germantown High School. The Germantown landmark will close its doors at the end of this school year as a result of the budget crisis in the Philadelphia public school district. Vision Thru Art class offers creative and social outlet to vision-impaired (via NewsWorks)

Besty Clayton is glazing a replacement of a ballerina sculpture she made years ago for her granddaughter. Clayton explains that the original broke beyond repair in many pieces while transporting. About a dozen students gather in the basement of Allens Lane Art Center in Mt. Airy for their weekly sculpting class. They spend the time working on long-term pieces, learning new techniques and catching up with each other. They are students in the center’s class for the visually-impaired…
