National Parks celebrated at the 2016 Philadelphia Flower Show

When claiming this young nation requires upgrades some undervalue the soil and rock on which it is based on.

Photographer Ansel Adams forms the inspiration behind a large black-and-white floral display at the 2016 PHS Flower Show. Adams job is currently up for grabs as the National Parks Service is searching for a dedicated photographer to step I the shoes of the historic significant landscape photographer. 'Explore America' is the theme for the 2016 edition of the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society Flower Show. The annual show, the largest in its kind, is held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City Philadelphia PA., and runs till March 13. (Bastiaan Slabbers)

While it seems most of the nation’s infrastructure really needs a tune-up or at least a fresh coat of paint, a group of centenarians is only getting better over time.

Visitors of this year’s Flower Show will see a large scale celebration of the 100th anniversary of United States’ National Park Service (NPS) as they scout the Convention Center wandering one of three ‘trails’ to ‘Explore America’. 2015 Long Beach Island International Kite Festival photos (for NewsWorks)

The breeze on Sunday was just enough to keep most show kites in the air on Long Beach Island this weekend. The sky above the beach at Ship Bottom, NJ was filled with colors as dozens of kites floated above. But the 7 mph wind wasn’t enough to lift the largest kites of the ground. The popular Whale remained bagged at the inaugural LBI FLY International Kite Festival. The festival runs Oct 9-12, 2015 on Long Beach Island.

Hundreds of kite flyers and families who came to the beach to see the kites mingled between ground art and kite lines. At other events down the Shore kites and specters are separated by roped lines. Here people come out, interact and having a blast said president of the South Jersey Kite Flyers (SJKF) Mike Dallmer, Sr., of Northeast Philadelphia. He, his wife and son travel up and down the coast visiting kite festivals and often participating in them. The season starts at Memorial Day Weekend in Wildwoods and this is the last large event of the season, he explains.
