Teen Sanctuaries by Philly Youth Radio

Shayla Torres is a high school senior and a returning Philly Youth Radio student. She’s going to college next year but that means she’ll have to leave her grandparents behind.

Philly Youth Radio seeks to provide high school students with the tools and training to create their own radio stories – and the opportunity to share them on a larger stage. Under the supervision of professional audio producers, youth radio apprentices engage in intensive radio production workshops to produce stories about issues important to them and their communities. Participants gain experience in story pitching, interviewing, field recording, script-writing, digital editing and voicing. ( Repost from http://phillyyouthradioproject.wordpress.com/ )

Rally in the Valley [VIDEO]

Mountain bike enthusiasts from across the region and all ages gathered in Wissahickon Park on Saturday for the 6th Annual Rally in the Valley festival.

The mountain bike event, organized by the Philadelphia Mountain Biking Association (PMBA), gives riders a chance to socialize, pick up riding tips and cruise together on the trails.

Jacalyn Clawson with PMBA said this year’s festival was scaled down a bit. Some vendors didn’t return after they had to deal with heavy rains during last year’s event.
